India is one of
the oldest civilizations in the world and so it has a lot of offer in terms of
culture, food, festivities and of course, fashion. Ever since the earliest
times, India has been called the land of mysticism, and the various religious
beliefs that make up a part of our culture has an important role to play in
every aspect of our lives. If we look back, we will find that the religious
ideas inherent in India played a crucial role in shaping up social interactions
and the way we look at the world, the way we form relationships and carry on
with our lives. Such ideas and practices have slowly and steadily shaped up
Indian fashion as well.
Ever since the
earliest times, Indian fashion has been much talked about in the Western
circles. While the earliest Europeans found it difficult to clearly understand
the ideas and practices prevalent in Indian culture, they surely did appreciate
the uniqueness and appeal that Indian clothing had. In fact, the clothes that
are made in India have a distinct identity of their own and cannot be likened
to the fashion concepts of any other culture. Whether you are a man or a woman
or a child, there is no dearth of options when it comes to Indian clothing.
The ethnic
beauty of Indian clothing is really difficult to miss. The sari, which is a
traditional wear for women, has found many takers all across the globe. The
concept of using a long piece of cloth as a dress and wearing it around the
body is an old one, and over the years the sari has went through hundreds and thousands
of modifications to take its modern form. Saris are available in the market in
a wide range of materials, including superior materials such as chiffon, silk,
zardosi, khadi, etc. There are also many regional materials as well, such as
tant, tangail, etc. Besides being available in different materials, the saris
also differ greatly in their colors, designs, patterns and intricate embroidery
works.
Apart from the
sari, there are other forms of attractive clothing items for the Indian women
as well. These include lehengas, ghagra cholis, salwaar kameez, churidars and a
wide range of leggings. India is a land of colors, and these traditional
garments are available in bright shades that greatly compliment the personality
of the wearer. Indian clothes particularly that of women have always been known
for their ethereal and delicate beauty and these clothes work greatly to
accentuate the femininity of the wearers.
While Indian
fashion has a lot to offer for women, the men in India also has a wide range of
clothing items to deck themselves up. The sherwani and kurta is a classic
Indian wear for men that can be worn for both formal and casual occasions.
Other popular garments include the dhoti, shirts and Nehru jackets. All of
these garments, particularly the sherwanis and kurtas, are available in a wide
range of colors and embroidery options. When combined with the right kind of
accessories, they can create a majestic appearance for the wearer.
At present,
there are many designers and labels that are known to play a crucial role in
bringing Indian fashion to the world stage. These designers have also made it
possible for the younger generation to take an active interest in traditional
Indian clothing. Many designers have also experimented by combining Indian fashion
with western elements to create a fusion. All these have simply expanded the
limits of Indian fashion and the grandeur it can reach. For this reason, every
Indian should feel proud to wear clothes made in India.
